Clearstream enhances market access to the Americas

Clearstream, the international central securities depository of Deutsche Börse Group, has expanded its international coverage by opening a new domestic link to Colombia.

The coverage will begin on 19 November 2018. Colombia will be Clearstream’s 58th domestic link.

According to Clearstream, the link will help foreign investors to access the local market and enables Clearstream to offer settlement of government debt, corporate bonds and equities.

BNP Paribas Securities Services will act as cash agent bank and local custodian.

The product offering will include against payment settlement in Colombian Peso. Available services also include foreign-exchange and full custody services on all assets held in Colombia.

Jan Willems, head of global markets at Clearstream, said: “The launch of this new link is bolstering Clearstream’s strategy to further expand our global network in the Americas. We are convinced that the offering provides our clients with new investment opportunities in Latin America where Clearstream has been active for 25 years.”

He added: “With BNP Paribas Securities Services we have found a reliable partner in the region, providing a stable and attractive settlement infrastructure at an international level.”

Claudia Calderon, head of Hispanic Latam at BNP Paribas Securities Services, commented: “We are delighted to bring our expertise to Clearstream for the launch of their new domestic custody link to Colombia.”
